Mission: Behind Enemy Lines…

I am headed into enemy territory…

Matthew J. Lee/The Boston Globe

I am on a mission to see how the Red Sox fans prepare to celebrate Opening Day at Fenway Park.  I’ll just put on a disguise and maybe I’ll fit right in as I talk with the locals…

Okay, maybe I should tone it down just a little…

I know, I’ll just go incognito…

I am looking forward to seeing the sights of Boston as I take my morning jog…

I am sure that the people of Boston are warm and friendly to visiting Yankees fans…

Would they take it as a compliment if I said, “Oh, that’s Fenway Park?  It’s almost as nice as Yankee Stadium!”?

Would they mind if I said that Manny Ramirez was my favorite Red Sox player?

Would it be okay if I wore my Bucky Dent t-shirt?

Hmmm, how many World Championships do the Red Sox have compared to the Yankees?

Oh, by the way, how did the Patriots fare with that perfect season?

There’s been a few references to “Sox-tober” but isn’t that when the Red Sox players are scheduled to begin their early vacation?  Just wondering…

Seriously, I am looking forward to the journey to Boston.  It’s a place that I’ve always wanted to visit.  I promise not to brag about the Yankees while I am there…well, not too much

The Yankees held their first workout at Yankee Stadium on Thursday.  The players were in awe of the new digs, and it promises to be a thrilling weekend in the Bronx as the Yankees play the Chicago Cubs in a two-game exhibition series.

Thursday’s experience left players and fans alike in complete awe of the new Stadium.

Peter Abraham’s LoHud Yankees Blog has some great details regarding the first day of the new Yankee Stadium.  Also, check out the Daily News.

I know that is not a football blog, but I’m mad.  I am mad that the Vikings made no apparent attempt to acquire Jay Cutler and I’m mad that Cutler was traded to the division rival Chicago Bears.  I agree that the Bears paid a very high price for Cutler (QB Kyle Orton, two first round picks and a third round pick).

I cannot say that I would have wanted the Vikings to give up that much, but they didn’t even try to get into the game and that bothered me.  I don’t want the team to make a foolish trade.  When they acquired Herschel Walker, they were a player or two shy of being a Super Bowl contender (like they are now).  But the trade backfired and the bounty propelled the Dallas Cowboys to a few Super Bowl Championships.  So, I understand the need to be conservative.

However, the Vikings have done nothing this off-season, in my opinion, to strengthen the team.  It has been more about try to keep the status quo.  Unfortunately, that won’t translate into a championship.  I am rapidly becoming an anti-fan of Head Coach Brad Childress.  I am not ready to throw him into the Les Steckel category, but he’s perilously close.  I miss Mike Tice today more than I ever have…

I’m happy again…I’m headed to Boston…

Enjoy your weekend!

P. S.  I still don’t like this guy…

Scott – you seem a little confused – Sox-tober is when Jeter and company are out golfing! 😉 I was reading about the new Yankee Stadium over on “The Bomber’s Beat” and Bryan mentioned that when the pitchers release the balls now, the background for the catchers will be the new jumbo video screen. I wonder if that will effect the catcher’s ability to see the ball.

Yes, my Patriots’ perfect season might not have ended the way we fans would have liked – but my memory is a little foggy (kind of like the weather here today) – how far did the Vikings go that season? 😉

Have a safe trip north! See you in Boston!

JULIA – I don’t know if you saw it, but I added the P.S. just for you! 😉 I know, the Vikings stink. 1998 was a very special year for the Vikings, and it should have been their year. But poor decisions by the Vikings coaches cost them that game so I can relate to the Pats recent SB loss. I feel like a pre-2004 Red Sox fan when it comes to the Vikings…
Thanks, and see you this weekend!

I’m sure the Vikings didn’t trade for Cutler because they have some other big move in the works. Any day now they will reveal their big plan to win the Super Bowl. Yep, any day now…-Erinhttp://plunking-gomez.mlblogs.comP. S. I’m sorry if this posts twice, but there seems to be some kind of server error.

Have a nice time in Boston! Its a nice city and I have to respect it because my mom is from there. But wear your Yankees gear and trash talk with the Sox fans! Thts always fun. Also, I love that picture of the crying Pats fan. Im a Giants fan, so I felt the exact opposite that day. I also agree that the Vikings should have made a push for Cutler, they are a QB away from the Super Bowl.
    Have a great time!

Thanks Scott – the P.S. was SO sweet of you! 😉 And ignore Vanessa – Boston is not populated by thugs – sadly there are too many Yankees fans here! I think we need to start doing border checks before we let people move in. And the finish line of the Marathon it shall be! Actually it isn’t all that far from Fenway. And how about this deal – NO pink hats for you, but I reserve the right to wear mine! See you this weekend; I think Sunday is going to be the only decent day of the weekend! Perfect for roaming the city. Have a safe trip!

GINNY – I’ll try to keep the Yankees love on the down low…
MELISSA – You and I will be going to war on April 16th! Until then, I think you’re great. On the morning of the 16th, sorry, you’re toast! 😉
    JENN – Don’t worry…I’ll represent Delaware well!
KING OF CALI – Thanks, but I’m dying tonight! My brother-in-law had free tickets to the A’s-Giants, and needed someone to go! Aargh! Here I am stuck on the East Coast, when there’s nothing in the world that I’d rather be doing than sitting at AT&T Park tonight…
ERIN – It isn’t so much that I am disappointed that the Vikes missed out on Cutler as it is dissatisfaction with the overall offseason. They’ve done absolutely nothing to improve the team, and they still need a few more players before they’ll be considered Super Bowl contenders. With our luck, they’ll pursue Michael Vick…
V – The new Stadium is very impressive. I am anxious to see what nicknames for the new stadium develop…
SHORTPORCH – That was kind of cool when the Giants won, huh?
JANE – Unfortunately, my Yankees cap will stay in my closet. I am looking forward to the trip and seeing the heartbeat of the Red Sox Nation. The new Yankee Stadium, BTW, is way cool, huh?
JULIA – You know that the P.S. was just for you, right? LOL! The U.S.S. Constitution is my first stop on Saturday…
